Transport in the North Cascades

Seattle City Light purchased Series S‐50 equipment for use on a remote lake in the North Cascades of Washington. Seattle’s electrical provider recently transported a 64‐ton transformer across Diablo Lake on a 40’ x 80’ x 5’ Flexifloat assembly. The total deck load, including the SPMT, matting and support beams, was approximately 250,000 lbs. 20‐foot‐long ramp attachments were used to facilitate the loading of the rubber‐tired transporter from the shoreline. 10‐foot rakes were used on the opposite end where a workboat pushed the barge. Guy line‐type chains secured the transformer to 18‐inch deck cleat attachments. Six transformers will be replaced with seven new ones using this Flexifloat system.
