Lake Travis Research Facility

An 18,200 sq. ft., Series S‐50 Flexifloat® platform was purchased by Applied Research Laboratories of The University of Texas. The 110’ x 190’ barge assembly provided a new floating foundation for the aging research facility at their Lake Travis Test Station location in Austin, Texas. Eventually, the entire research facility will be relocated onto the new platform. Moon pools of various sizes are incorporated into the hull to allow convenient access to the water while performing their research. An 8‐point mooring system will provide anchoring and allow the facility to be repositioned if necessary. The design of the Flexifloat® configuration ensures that the hull is rigid by lapping sections in a brickwork‐type pattern and ‘capping’ with perpendicular rows of floats.
