Brennan’s Remediation Barge

Environmental dredging and marine construction contractor, J. F. Brennan, used a 40’ x 90’ Flexifloat Series S-70 spud barge to support a Liebherr 956 hydraulic excavator on a Superfund site in Ashland, Wisconsin. The 140,000-pound excavator was equipped with a special environmental bucket that utilizes a lid to minimize turbidity while removing contaminated sediments and debris from Ashland’s harbor. Four spuds anchored the barge assembly, two of which were ’kicker’ spuds to help reposition the platform. The remediation project also incorporated additional S-70 floats attached to custom-fabricated hopper barges.
