300-ton Crawler on Brazos River

IH 35 Bridge Project

Waco, TX
Choctaw Erectors utilized an 80’ x 80’ Series S-70 Flexifloat® configuration to support their Manitowoc 2250 Series 3 crawler crane for Webber’s Interstate 35 reconstruction project in Waco, Texas. Equipped with a 160-foot boom, the 300-ton capacity crane set steel girders across the Brazos River as long as 125-feet and weighing up to 148,800 lbs. The new I35 spans are being built between two existing frontage road bridges limiting access and working area of the site. Due to the limited access and existing bridge piers, Robishaw Engineering had to design a floating pier assembly to transfer the crane out to the 80’ x 80’ crane barge. Taking advantage of the modularity of the Flexifloats®, Webber then reconfigured this pier assembly into manlift barges and another floating pier assembly to support the tractor trailers backing girders out over the water.
